TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS, SPAIN

SOUTH TENERIFE: AN EXCLUSIVE TOURISTIC AREA

Tenerife South (Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and Playa de Las Americas) is the main tourist area of Tenerife. The south coast of Tenerife offers a lot of tourist attractions, wonderful beaches, watersports and so on.

In this area you have a variety of accommodation, cheap hotels, luxurious resorts, reowned hotel chains, tourist apartments, stunning private villas to enjoy intimate holidays.

HOW TO GET TO SOUTH TENERIFE

Tenerife has two airports: Tenerife South (Reina Sofia's Airport), near the island\’s most popular resorts (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos or Playa de Las Americas) and Tenerife North Airport, which is about 11km west of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Tenerife has two principal maritime ports: the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Puerto de Santa Cruz), The port of Santa Cruz, very close to the city centre. It is both a container and a passenger port. The shipping lines that operate from the port sail to Gran Canaria, Cadiz and Barcelona. Cruise liners also dock at this port on a regular basis. It is currently undergoing an extensive and ambitious remodelling project supervised by the Swiss architects Herzog and De Meuron.

The shipping lines that operate from Los Cristianos port, in the south of Tenerife, sail to San Sebastián on the island of La Gomera; La Estaca, on the island of El Hierro; and Santa Cruz de La Palma. This is a busy passenger port, which is often used by tourists on trips to La Gomera. There are also many boats offering sightseeing trips to the Cliffs of Los Gigantes or whale and dolphin watching excursions.

WEATHER & CLIMATE

Tenerife South with 22-24ºC as an annual average temperature; is the perfect destination to enjoy sun and beach all year round. Summers in Tenerife are hot and dry, with 30ºC. They call the weather in Tenerife “eternal springtime”, with its wonderfully mild climate even in deepest winter, making it the perfect destination for a winter holiday.

TENERIFE SOUTH BEACHES

Tenerife South offers amazing beaches, which have soft golden or volcanic sand with warm and calm waters, ideal for swimming. From Playa de Las Americas to Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Las Vistas, Paya del Camisón, in Arona and Playa del Duque, Playa de Troya and Playa Fañabé, in Adeje.

Due to African winds in El Medano Beach, Surf and kitesurf are two of the most popular activities in South Tenerife.

NATURAL ATTRACTIONS IN SOUTH TENERIFE

Teide National Park, is the highest mountain of Spain (3.718 m), declared World Heritage Site by Unesco. This park offers one of most the spectacular shows of volcanism in the wold.

Los Gigantes, the dizzyingly high cliffs that loom over the Atlantic on Tenerife's north-western coast.

Boat trips, luxurious catamarans, to see dolphins and whales in the Atlantic Ocean. Daily trips from the port, in Los Cristianos.

PLACE TO SEE IN TENERIFE

Loro Parque is the number 1 of European zoos, in Puerto de La Cruz. Siam Park; the best waterpark of the world; in Costa Adeje. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital, a cosmopolitan, happy and bright city. It looks out onto the sea, is full of interesting sites and has a marked island character. Loro Parque, a magical tropical park where you can see jaguars, whales, dolphins, gorillas and even penguins.

Puerto de la Cruz, situated on the northern coast of the island, at the foot of El Teide, offers its visitors a cosmopolitan town which, after a century of tourism experience, today retains all the flavour of a conurbation open to the sea and to every cultural background. Declared of Tourist Interest in 1955. Puerto de la Cruz brings together in attractive harmony both the traditional architecture of the island and the modernity of first-class hotels.

La Orotava is surrounded by banana plantations and wooded hillsides and looks up to the volcano. Indeed, this valley forms a large part of the Teide National Park, into which numerous tracks begin, as an invitation to spend pleasant days strolling through nature.

THE CARNIVAL IN TENERIFE

Carnival time come in February when the islands explode in a riot of colour during carnival time. Join the fun in the biggest carnival in the Canaries, when the spirit of Rio takes over Tenerife’s capital city, Santa Cruz. The dancing goes on all night during two weeks of parties.
